According to the proponents of the body type diets, every individual has his own unique nutritional needs. Evidently, our differences in metabolism demand diverse dietary needs. Discovering the metabolic type will help you realise why sustaining a low-carbohydrate diet is a great idea for some people while the same nutritional value might be unhealthy for others.

First designed by William Kelly in 1960, metabolic typing is focused on one’s dietary choices based on the activities of the nervous system.  While he continued to advertise such dietary system, Harold Kristal and William Wolcott further developed the practice. It had become the basis for the customization of nutritional type.

Metabolic typing is a complicated process of identifying the appropriate mixture of nutrients that is considered unique to every individual. Keep in mind that every individual differs with regards to nutritional requirements. In order for the body to function well, there must be an adequate supply of nutrients such as protein, fat, minerals, vitamins, carbohydrates and also water. These crucial substances will ensure that all bodily functions are executed correctly.

If the cells in our body don’t obtain the right nutrients, they're not going to be able to carry out their function well. As a result, failure to do various chemical reactions in the body may lead to chronic diseases including liver problem, diabetes and cancer. Based on studies, incorrect combination of nutrients does not allow the cells to operate correctly. Although you may be getting some carbohydrates and protein, incorrect combination of these substances might not be able to fuel the cells.

Not enough and wrong combination of nutrients might not only impact one’s health at a cellular level. Once you know exactly your metabolic type, you will be able to properly support the nutritional needs of your body. You may probably end up wondering, “What is the best diet for me”? Well, it only takes one thing to be able to your body with the right mixture of nutrients and that's by determining your metabolic or nutritional type.

What exactly is the metabolic typing diet?

Through the metabolic typing diet, you'll be able to simply identify the most appropriate diet for your body. William Wolcott classified differences in metabolism into three groups.

a. Protein Type. This metabolic type is considered fast oxidizers.  If you are a protein type, you may crave salty and fatty foods. Regular hunger can also be encountered since your body may burn more carbohydrates too rapidly.  High-fat protein diet works well with people within this metabolic type.

b. Carbo Type. Contrary to the first metabolic type, carbo types tend to have poor appetites. In order to speed up the oxidation rate, elevated carbohydrate intake may be required. Carbo types are highly recommended to keep a low-protein diet. Their every day nutritional plan will include moderate amount of carbohydrates and low-fat dairy products.

c. Mixed Type. If someone is a mixed type, he is likely in between the two metabolic classes. Since there is a metabolic imbalance which is why there is a requirement for a moderate combination of protein and carbohydrate-rich foods.

We sometimes find ourselves really baffled as to how we can offer our body with plenty of nutrients. Understand that being healthy isn’t just about eating nutritious foods. Based on holistics Sydney, there is no single diet that can work for everyone. As every individual is metabolically various, his dietary needs also differ.
